ISWG Apr 3 Blog Hop: Share your Blogging Journey

Happy Wednesday! The Insecure Writers’ Group is a group of writers offering motivation and encouragement to all those taking on the challenges of writing. Every month the ISWG sponsors a blog hop where writers can blog about a topic related to overcoming obstacles and exploring various aspects of the writing journey. If you’d like to participate in a future hop you can join here. It’s always a great experience, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in writing and sharing with other writers.

The co-hosts for this April 3 post of the IWSG are Janet Alcorn, T. Powell Coltrin,Natalie Aguirre, and Pat Garcia!

Every month there is an optional discussion question to ponder, and this month it’s the following:

April 3 question – How long have you been blogging? (Or on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram?) What do you like about it and how has it changed?

I’ve been blogging since about 2017. And to tell the truth, I do actually really like it. I’m not even a fraction as consistent as I should be, and I oftentimes dread sitting down to write for it, but once I do I’m glad I did. As far as how it’s changed? For me, it’s a little easier to post than it used to be. I used to find it almost impossible to share anything publicly. Now, it’s slightly less daunting. But only slightly 😅 I’m still the same introverted person as before, and sharing is hard. Being surrounded by supportive people and getting feedback from other writers has been very helpful for me, so thank you to everyone who comments and talks about their own experiences. It’s helped me be more comfortable with my blogging and not want to run and hide after posting something.

How about you? How long have you been blogging, and do you find it difficult or easier as time has gone on? Do you enjoy using social media for your blog? Let me know in the comments!

-Winter

  1. Hi, Winter! Happy IWSG Day! I also really like blogging. I don’t have any problem sharing. I’m an open book, or as my grandmother Ella Grace used to say, “You wear your heart on your sleeve.” I love the support and encouragement I’ve had from the IWSG over the past 12 years. And I’ve made some great friends! All the best to you!

  2. Great question, Winter. In the beginning, my blogging ambitions exceeded my skills, and only later did I discover that’s okay. Fortunately, my wiring harness of diligence and perseverance not only knocked off the rough edges, but that combo brought out hidden talents and infused much needed skills for the long haul. Years later, I still enjoy blogging. It’s given me a mission: to help writers master story structure and write a book readers will love.

  3. I have been blogging since 2013 or 2014, and currently, I write two blogs. One is rather thought-provoking or inspirational that can be found at https://www.simplethoughtsfromacomplicatedmindsortof.com and the other is more of an author blog containing snippets of my writing, tips on writing, and author interviews. It can be found at https://www.jrlewisauthor.blog

I find blogging refreshing and quite different from the genre I write in: thriller-crime-mystery with a coming-of-age thread running throughout. At least in my blogs, I don’t kill people off, but try to uplift and provide help.

You can find all my books, descriptions, buy links and links to my two blogs on my website at https://www.jrlewisauthor.com

    1. That sounds great! Haha I can definitely see how blogging would be different from the crime thriller genre, killing people off would be kind of scary for a blog 😁

  4. I have been blogging, officially since around 2014, but properly, with consistency, since 2021.
For me it is a way to throw out a thought (mainly on running but sometimes other things) quickly.
I like that kind of writing, short and focused. I’m also glad that my consistency with my blogging gave me the lift off to do my Creative Writing MA, and now I’m, tentatively, exploring larger, more considered writing. It’s a bit scary, but the blogging has given me some confidence in my abilities to push on.
