Happy Wednesday! The Insecure Writers’ Group is a group of writers offering motivation and encouragement to all those taking on the challenges of writing. Every month the ISWG sponsors a blog hop where writers can blog about a topic related to overcoming obstacles and exploring various aspects of the writing journey. If you’d like to participate in a future hop you can join here. It’s always a great experience, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in writing and sharing with other writers. Every month there is an optional discussion question, and this month the question is the following:
September 7 question – What genre would be the worst one for you to tackle and why?
It’s been a while since I’ve written anything for my blog. The time has slipped by, and before I knew it a lot of time had passed between my last post and this one. I hope to get a little better about making the time to sit and write something down.
This question didn’t take too much time for me to immediately think of a response. What genre would be the worst for me to tackle?
Yep, that would really challenge me.
As a person with awful anxiety and intrusive thinking, I spend my life already worrying and coming up with horrible scenarios in which I might be killed by a serial killer or haunted by a poltergeist or any other number of awful scary things. When I was little, like 5 or so, I was terrified of the Heffalumps from Winnie the Pooh. Then vampires. Then it became demonic possession, then the dummy from R.L. Stine’s the Night of the Living Dummy. When I was older I started reading Stephen King. Then I was scared of clowns, and zombies, and then eventually other human beings with secret evil plans.
Bottom line, if I actually sat down and had to think about horrible scenarios in which to put my characters, I think it might actually drive me insane. Either that, or it might help me get over my fears? Hey, maybe I will try to write a horror book.
Definitley just kidding.
How about you? What genre of writing would you most struggle with, and why?
Wishing you lots of good productive writing today in your favorite genre 🙂
