Happy National Read a Book Day!

Hello everyone and Happy Labor Day! Today in the United States we celebrate Labor Day, an occasion commemorating the hard work and achievements of American workers. Because it’s a Federal holiday many people enjoy the day off, and some traditional activities include picnics, grilling and spending time outdoors before the end of the summer. I can’t believe how quickly this year is going and that fall is almost here.

But there is also another, lesser known day that I want to talk about, celebrated today as well. National Read a Book Day! As a writer and reader this day is near and dear to my heart. National Read a Book Day is celebrated on Sept 6, and its purpose is to encourage us to pick up a book and do some reading. I can appreciate any day that promotes a love of reading and books 🙂

Lately I’ll admit I’ve been in a reading rut, when nighttime rolls around (my usual reading time), I’m so tired I read a few sentences and fall asleep. I wake up in the morning mad at myself, my Kindle still open. During the day my mind is so chaotic I can’t slow it down enough to focus. I’m sad to say it’s been that way for a while. But now that fall is approaching, I’m looking forward to a new beginning. I’m slowly building my TBR list, with an emphasis on gothic novels because for me, they’re perfect for fall and for Halloween.

What are you reading? Are you going to be celebrating today with a good book? Wishing you a wonderful day filled with many books and fantastic stories.

  1. No reason to be mad at yourself. I personally read at the same time you do too, but I also try and squeeze in a paragraph here or there throughout the day so that I don’t feel pressured to bank everything on my one nightly session. Anyway, thanks for this post!

    1. Thank you Stuart! That’s a great idea, I’m going to try to incorporate some more reading throughout the day as well! I can definitely see how that would lessen some of the pressure to do all the reading at the very end of the day.

    1. Thank you so much for reading David! Books are the best, the world often feels so hectic that it can be difficult to find time, but I’m trying hard to dedicate more of my day to reading because it’s so worth it. I’m so glad you enjoyed the book, it sounds wonderful!!
